Nakana Costa Seminar

Professor Nakana Costa is a Judo black belt and two-stripe jiu jitsu black belt in the Team Shawn Hammonds association. If you have not met him yet, you are missing out. Professor Costa always brings great knowledge up to us and is often referred to as the encyclopedia of jiu jitsu. If there is a particular position you are struggling with, he has 14 ways to help you figure out your best jiu jitsu from that position. This seminar would be in the gi, start around 11am like normal, and run for about two hours.

This seminar will be open to other gyms, as well!

Professor Costa will also be available for private lessons before and after the seminar. He is $100 for an hour for either a one-on-one or a semi-private (with up to 2 people). A private lesson with 3 people costs $125 total. Private lessons will be paid directly to Professor Costa. Reach out to Bryn to schedule your private lesson. Spots are already filling up!

This seminar will be $40 per person which we would like to collect beforehand. Please reach out to any of the coaches if you plan to attend, and payment can be accepted as cash or Venmo to @DeltaGrapplingAcademy.

James Fisher

We have a special event Saturday, September 16th!

James Fisher, a Team Shawn Hammonds black belt from Mt Orab, will be coming up to teach our class that day. This will not be a formal seminar and there will be no cost associated with the class. Professor Fisher is coming up to share some of his shenanigans in the gi. He started jiu-jitsu in 2008 and earned his black belt in 2019 and has been an active competitor even at the black belt level.

Professor Fisher will also be available before and after the class for private lessons, for which he does not officially charge, but simply asks for a donation for what you feel the time was worth. This is an EXCELLENT time to spend some one-on-one, or semi-private time with you and a friend prior to the Grappling Industries in October to start honing in on your game. Even if you are not planning to compete, being able to have individualized attention will only further your jiu-jitsu.

Please reach out if you're interested in a private lesson with Professor Fisher.

Greg Lapin and Tiago Bravo Self-Defense Seminar

Greg Lapin and Tiago Bravo Self-Defense Seminar

**Greg Lapin is a Checkmat Blackbelt who has 20 years of Law Enforcement and government contracting on special projects. He is a current SWAT explosive breacher and senior assaulter.

**Tiago Bravo is a high-level black belt competitor from the United Arab Emirates, who has won multiple times on big stages such as the IBJJF Pans and UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pros. Professor Bravo has been a black belt for almost 14 years alone if that gives you some perspective on the knowledge base that he is bringing to us.

These two are coming together at Delta to teach a seminar that will focus on distance management and subject/attacker control. They will discuss and demonstrate the reasons to close and control distance versus having the ability to defend and separate or create distance. They will cover punch/block defense, streetwise takedowns, top position and control, rotational points of control, cuffing options (for law enforcement) and separation or escalation of force for civilians. Additionally, they will cover bottom position, open guard, and closed guard for self defense, as well as fighting up to your feet and some basic, streetwise sweeps. This seminar will place a focus on wrestling, grappling and Jiu-jitsu for attacks in the real world. Bring your gi or bdu style pants for law enforcement if you don’t have a gi. (Yes, you read that correctly -- this seminar will be in the gi)

This seminar is being provided at no cost to Delta Grappling Academy members. The owners (Jim, Joe, Brandon, and Derek) have graciously covered the costs for these guys to come in because they want to bring the gym new experiences from high-level jiu-jitsu practitioners. Non-members will be $30 per person.
